A paragraph can contain a credible-looking link that leads to background material rather than evidence for its precise claim. Another article may simply repeat the same assertion. Follow the chain until you understand the source and what it actually establishes.
A small step to try
Record the claim, cited destination and relevant supporting detail. Note where the chain stops or changes meaning. Do not treat the presence of many links as a substitute for checking their relationship to the statement. In your own writing, place a source near the claim it supports and preserve qualifications that the source gives.
