Why AI Uses So Much Energy and Water
AI models like GPT run on energy-hungry servers inside massive data centers. These servers process complex computations and generate intense heat, which must be managed continuously.
To prevent overheating, data centers rely on two main cooling methods:

Air conditioning, which runs on electricity, especially where water is scarce or expensive
Either way, the infrastructure demands are enormous.
AI vs. Public Resources: A Growing Clash
States like Arizona and Iowa are already experiencing the tension between public needs and AI expansion. On one hand, AI data centers bring jobs, investment, and tax revenue. On the other, they compete with local communities for water and power especially in regions already struggling with resource shortages.
