Review Access to a Shared Document

Know who can open the link before sending it.

Independent technology and communication journal · October 7, 2026

Cream envelopes and blank note cards with abstract blue details; a fictional editorial illustration.

The useful starting point

A document intended for a small project group may have a broader sharing setting than the sender expects. The label shared does not explain which audience has access or whether recipients can edit. Review the actual permissions in the service before circulating the link.

A small step to try

Identify the intended readers, purpose and permission level. Check the current settings using the organisation’s approved process, and avoid expanding access merely to make a link convenient. Keep sensitive content out of public examples. A permission review is useful when tied to a real audience and document; a general article cannot verify the state of your account.
