7/8/2024,

I may be unique in this, but I recently persuaded a close buddy to upgrade their GPU, so I’m thinking of selling the best GPU available. In the end, my one tiny regret is that I love replacing my graphics card way too often.

Furthermore, said graphics card is not even yet real! My friend would be using the as-yet-unannounced Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU on a 27-inch, 1440p (2560 x 1440) monitor, even if it might still ship before the end of 2024.

Stated otherwise, a card possessing such immense power would be ineffective on a screen that small.

That got me thinking about the current best graphics card, Nvidia’s RTX 4090. More accurately, even though I’m fortunate enough to own one of the best gaming PCs, I haven’t been using mine as much as I used to.

When Inno3D’s powerful GPU for Team Green first came out in October 2022, I bought it. Although the most powerful consumer card available today originally retailed for $1,599 according to Nvidia, that high price has rarely really been reached. Even after two years of its debut, several third-party manufacturers are still charging close to $2,000 for the RTX 4090, and it is rarely available for purchase. Nevertheless…

The Gigabyte Aorus GeForce RTX 4090 GPU is currently available for $1,804 at Amazon.com. That’s not exactly a huge reduction, since the list price is $1,899, so you’re only saving $95. Well, a deal is a deal, isn’t that right?

It is the best. I chose the top-tier RTX 4070 variant, which comes with 32GB of DDR5 RAM and an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS CPU. The best PC games are destroyed by it in terms of competition.

Many modern games allow me to get between 80 and 120 frames per second, due to a handy $7 Steam software that triples game frame rates via clever supersampling.

There are currently just two OLED gaming laptops with Nvidia’s frame-smoothing G-Sync technology installed, the most recent being the Zephyrus G14.

Not even my obsessive-compulsive vision can forecast when a game is going to drop.

Builders take note!

I’ve already talked about a couple of the reasons why the G14 is consuming more of my nightly hours than my giant rig on this page.

Even though I enjoy using my high-end desktop computer, which has an AMD Ryzen 7800X3D CPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 4TB SSD that can read data at speeds of up to 11,700MBps, I frequently find that I don’t want to spend any more time in my home office, where my desktop is kept.

This complements the RTX 4090.

Yes, with my fantastic PC stand on wheels, I can move my extremely heavy 65-pound PC to my living room with great ease.

That simple pressing process, though, weirdly agitates my husky, so I haven’t been playing PC games in my lounge as often as I used to.

The fact that components of home-built rigs can malfunction suddenly and at any time is another major issue. My PC will occasionally just force itself to boot, requiring a fairly awkward CMOS reset; other times, the “Blue Screen of Death” will appear at random. The image a few lines above shows you how much I’ve had to tinker with my PC. By the way, who among us sane people possesses that many screwdrivers?

The best G14 is a man-cub in the flesh.

In addition to being an incredible gaming machine, the ROG Zephyrus G14 is also a fantastic Netflix machine or a laptop that you should think about purchasing if you enjoy watching the finest Disney Plus films (which is why the image above is from the live-action “The Jungle Book” remake from 2016).

The G14 is a great device for streaming movies and TV shows when paired with a good set of the greatest Bluetooth speakers.

Even though I’ve only had this amazing laptop from Asus for a little over a month, it’s already become my go-to choice for relaxing in the evenings.

The downside is that I’m not using my M4 iPad Pro, LG OLED, or gaming desktop as much as I would have if I hadn’t bought the G14.

I’ve recently shifted from watching more videos on my 77-inch OLED TV to watching more on my new laptop, making me the kind of guy that great directors like Spielberg and Scorcese would loathe. All I can do is sincerely sorry to the two well-known Hollywood directors.

Given that the Zephrus G14 and its amazing 2.8K (2880 x 1800) OLED display have won my heart, will I be selling my RTX 4090 anytime soon?

Probably not. I still prefer to play games on my PC, and I can play titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, which is probably my all-time favourite, on my gaming desktop, the G14, and my Steam Deck OLED without any problems due to how well Steam’s cloud saving functions.
