Intel Co-Launches the Quantum AI Challenge for HBCUs
A few participants will receive an Intel AI PC to use for AI-enhanced Python-based quantum simulations.
In order to encourage creativity and teamwork among historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), Intel has co-launched a new program that uses quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI) to solve real-world challenges.
The recently launched Quantum AI Challenge challenges participants to identify and resolve intricate optimization issues that have the potential to revolutionize fields including material science, energy, healthcare, and supply chain management.
Participants will receive mentorship from global experts and be expected to translate optimization problems into quantum algorithms and circuits.
Selected teams will receive an Intel AI PC to run Python-based quantum simulations enhanced with AI.
The initiative prioritizes HBCU students, faculty and researchers working in teams of two to five members, along with projects focused on healthcare, education, energy, material science, or other social-impact fields.
The winning teams will present their solutions to a global audience, earning prizes, mentorship and more.
The new initiative is part of Intel’s collaboration with data and AI company Flapmax which aims to accelerate AI innovation in underserved populations. It partners with leading technology providers around the globe to achieve this ambition and to boost sustainable solutions to improve communities worldwide.
“By partnering with Intel and HBCUs, we are providing the next generation of students and researchers with the tools and resources to explore AI and quantum computing, push the boundaries of scientific discovery, and drive meaningful impact across industries,” said Flapmax CEO Dave Ojika.
Michael Campbell, the general manager for the education client division at Intel Corporation added that by providing access to Intel’s cutting-edge AI hardware and tools, the company hopes to accelerate innovation and inclusion within the quantum community.

Participants will also benefit from access to Flapmax’s FAST Accelerator, which empowers local entrepreneurs, small businesses, and startups with state-of-the-art technology and funding opportunities.
