AI See who’s back?
Artificial intelligence is being used by right-wing radicals to revive Adolf Hitler for use on social media.
While the AI recreation of the head of the Third Reich is attracting a lot of attention on social media, it is also changing the perception of him from the “worst person in history” to “someone who was simply misunderstood at the time.”
Hitler is now delivering his talks in English in audio or video for websites like X the former Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, it was discovered, thanks to the wonders of artificial intelligence.
While the AI recreation of the head of the Third Reich is attracting a lot of attention on social media, it is also changing the perception of him from the “worst person in history” to “someone who was simply misunderstood at the time.”
“Just seven AI-generated videos of Hitler speeches on YouTube, posted in 2024, had received 6.9 million views,” the paper states.
Even more concerning is the way these platforms’ algorithms spread this content farther, much like other extreme content that gains internet popularity.
The use of AI by radicals to spread their views is not particularly new. AI has been utilized by the terrorist group Islamic State (IS, also known as ISIS) to create visually appealing propaganda videos that exalt acts of terrorism and mass slaughter.
The employment of AI by fringe organizations makes perfect sense. It is not difficult or expensive to make voice clones and visual deepfakes.
What’s particularly frightening about this is that all of this AI-generated content about Hitler is becoming viral despite platforms doing nothing to prevent its spread.
Based on the survey, it appears that pro-Hitler content is particularly bad on the online platform X, where “just 11 posts garnered 11.2 million views in a one-week period.”
According to the ISD analysis, there appears to be a correlation between the proliferation of terrible content and anti-Semitism.
