The Most Recent AI Technology Demo from Google Was a Total Failure

“Let’s see if the demo spirits are with us today.”

Tuesday’s live demonstration of Google’s AI smartphone app, which left the company looking foolish, was witnessed by a sizable crowd.

Presenters at this week’s Made by Google event attempted to encourage Google’s Gemini AI to finish a very basic mobile assignment.

According to CNET, the AI failed twice before succeeding on the third attempt.

The audience grew silent awkwardly as Citron sought to get Gemini to give the correct information.

He said, “Let’s see if the demo spirits are with us today,” just as the screen displayed an error message. “Oh no. It appears that they are not with us.

After what seemed like an eternity of waiting, on the third attempt, Gemini finally delivered Citron the information he sought, causing the relieved audience to erupt in cheers.

AI Errors

Fortunately, that appeared to be the only glitch during the event; but, Google executives must be concerned with Gemini’s lack of responsiveness.

Since the tech giant unveiled Gemini to the public last year as a response to competing AI technologies like Microsoft’s Copilot and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, the platform has been beset by issues.

Earlier this year, among other strange photographs, Gemini was seen spitting out absurd AI-generated images of racial minorities dressed as Nazis. Additionally, it was observed producing false recommendations, such as advising individuals to destroy the images within a film camera by opening the rear of the device to free a stuck roll of film.

Last year, Google was also shown to have faked a Gemini AI demo.

In addition to Gemini, Google’s recently introduced AI Overviews feature a summary produced by AI that shows up in certain search results has also encountered issues. Users have observed that the feature produces a lot of false information, such as instructing them to apply glue to their pizza to prevent the cheese from sliding off.

After Tuesday’s demonstration, it’s evident that Google is still making an effort to get its crude AI technology to function, but it keeps tripping over its own mistakes.
