Crowds were created by AI.
13/8/2024,
Trump is lying about being upset about Harris’ massive crowds by claiming they were created by AI.
“BUT THEY DIDN’T EXIST!”
Size Counts
Yesterday, Donald Trump claimed on the app Truth Social that Vice President Kamala Harris had “A.I.’d it,” or utilised artificial intelligence, to create a photo of a large group of people welcoming her to the airport.
There is a small issue: Trump’s assertion was wholly untrue and predicated on a widely disseminated hoax.
“Has anyone noticed that Kamala CHEATED at the airport?” The falsified “Truth,” as posts on Truth Social are called, was titled by Trump.
“There was nobody at the plane, and she ‘A.I.’d’ it, and showed a massive ‘crowd’ of so-called followers, BUT THEY DIDN’T EXIST!”
Following his declaration that Harris should be “disqualified [from the presidential race] because the creation of a fake image is ELECTION INTERFERENCE,” he shared a screenshot of a post on Twitter that allegedly made the false claim about artificial intelligence.
But the post came from an election-denier and far-right user, saying that a “BREAKING REPORT” showed the Harris campaign was “BUSTED” by using a “FAKE crowd photo at campaign rally stop.” (This guy merely tweeted it; there was no report.)
Stated differently, a 2024 presidential contender propagated false information propagated by an inconspicuous poster, no less alleging that his rival had employed artificial intelligence to manipulate the number of attendees.
“AI‘d It”
Indeed, thousands of fans flocked to the tarmac after Harris’ touchdown in Michigan, as shown by this official CNBC photo from the occasion.
The Harris campaign told CNBC that about 15,000 (real) people attended the demonstration, and they denied employing artificial intelligence (AI) to construct the image.
Speaking of scale, it has been generally reported that Trump is becoming more and more irascible due to the historically high attendance at Harris rallies.
For example, when a reporter questioned Trump about the number of people who attended Harris’ rally last week, he quickly compared the crowd on January 6 to Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, even claiming that his pre-insurrection speech had “more people” in attendance than the civil rights leader’s historic speech. This was said during a press conference held at Mar-A-Lago. (That assertion is also untrue.)
The former president said, “I’ve spoken to the biggest crowds,” as reported by The Washington Post. “Nobody’s spoken to crowds bigger than me.”
The danger of using AI-generated media as opposed to true AI-generated media to subvert our shared reality is exemplified by Trump’s AI falsehood.
Although the widely shared photos from Harris’ rally were not created by AI, several commenters seemed to be persuaded of an AI plot by the claim alone, based on the comments on X.
One sign said, “What Kamala can’t achieve, she will deceive.”
